The National Calendar of India serves as the official civil calendar utilized within the country. It was officially adopted by the Government of India in 1957 following the recommendation of the Calendar Reform Committee, with the aim of standardizing various calendrical systems employed across India at the time, which numbered over thirty. This calendar supplements the Gregorian system and is officially referenced in government communications, including publications by the Gazette of India, radio broadcasts by All India Radio, and official documents issued by various government authorities. Its implementation commenced on March 22, 1957, corresponding to Chaitra 1, 1879 Saka in the Indian National Calendar.
